Forgiveness Friday~ 11/18/11

  * Good News…34 students did the blog post. Those who did, about half of them did a great job. Bad news…there are 102 students.

       1. Threshold:  Friday, 11/18/2011 ~ DO YOUR BEST and FORGET THE REST!!!

  •  Today is Forgiveness Friday. Take time to forgive someone else for the wrong that they have done or the hurt that they have caused you (even forgive yourself for a mistake if you don’t have someone to forgive for theirs). Remember, it doesn’t mean you have to forget the pain they’ve caused. It makes you stronger and more at peace to move on when you forgive.
  • Give me your view of what happened yesterday while was out with my sick daughter. You don’t need to use names, I already have them. Also, if you were me, how would you feel coming back today?
  • After viewing the video clips, give your honest thougths about how this changes your view about the food America eats. Also, why have food prices gone up so much that this will be the most expensive Thanksgiving holiday ever?!

  1. Jamestown 1 fails as a colony because they are on an island that floods twice daily. the soil erodes and there is no way they can get any food. they are also surrounded by hostile indians who want to kill them. the third reason is that they are in a swamp, and the mosquitoes that come with the swamp have maliria. the settlers are dying of maliria and malnutrition, but they get rescued at the last moment and live to try again. the second time the settlers went to create jamestown, they had john smith with them. john smith is the man for the job because he is armed to the teeth. he had 8 to 10 weapons on him at all times. he knows how to fight indians and where to set up camp. he also consiteres it his job to protect the settlers from danger, and that is how the settlers live to make a sucessful jamestown 2.

  2. Jamestown colony fails because they’re in a swamp and the mosquito’s had Malaria which killed a lot of them. The ship rots, and Indians are surrounding them.

And Mr. Perry we did not get far enough for you to explain that.

  3. HW Part 1: Jamestown 1 fails as a colony because they settled themselves in the MIDDLE of the river by the coast of the ocean. The river floods the island more than twice a day & the soil erodes or floods so there is absolutely no way you can get any food not to mention that the people could over populate and hostile, mean Indians could surround and attack the colony. Malaria from he mosquitoes could sicken the settlers. Eventually they had to be rescued by sea dogs and were taken back to England after, King James sent his best man Captain John Smith to the job for settling. John was “Armed to the Teeth” because he had 8-10 weapons on his body at a time which made him perfect for fighting off Indians. They finally tried at it again for Jamestown 2 with John Smith and successfully made another, better Jamestown.
HW Part 2: Thanksgiving was the celebration to thank God for Squanto and surviving the first winter and for the feast. Squanto helped them with building, settling, defending, and growing for themselves. If Squanto never taught the Pilgrims how to do all these things or never was kidnapped and had never learned English, then we would all be speaking different languages and we wouldn’t be as successful as we are today.

  4. It was called Thanksgiving and they would of never done it if Squanto had never shown up.Squanto teaches them a lot of things that help the pilgrims. It was all thanks to Squanto and they would of never survived and we probably would not be here or speak this language we speak know. Their would probably another tribe or another type of language here in the USA. Squanto is one of the main reasons we are here because he teaches the pilgrims how to do a lot of things and the stock trade company is what helps them a lot because that is how a lot of other people moved to the place they wear at or another place but it was thanks to Squanto for helping them and teaching them new things.

  5. After William Bradford and the Plymouth Colony successfully survive the first winter and then the first harvest they hold a celebration. What is that celebration called AND to whom do they owe much of that success?
How might what we know today as America have been different if the Pilgrims would not have made it through the first winter? (Would Europeans still have settled there? Would we speak English? Would slavery have reached America? Would the 25 million or so American Indians have survived longer? Keep these questions in mind when answering)

The celebration is called Thanksgiving. The majority of the success goes to Squanto, who was able to communicate, and also was able to teach the pilgrims how to farm, considering that the pilgrims were considered city dwellers.
If the pilgrims didn’t come to America, we probably wouldn’t speak English, we would speak languages that the Indians spoke. We would probably not have states, but the Indian tribes might have some sort of boundary lines. I think that in good time, some settlers would come from Europe, but, if the Pilgrims couldn’t survive the winter, I doubt that any other European countries would be able to. American Indians might be able to survive longer, considering that they would keep getting advanced technology and would know America the best. They might also come up with stock trade companies for land. This would help not only their personal tribes but also tribes of many sorts. This would possibly become a partnership between tribes and could build a civilization…eventually.

  6. The celebration William Bradford declared is called Thanksgiving. Most of the success is owed to the Indian Squanto because he helped teach the Pilgrims how to do things like plant, fish, and use fish for fertilizer. This helped them survive the first winter. if the Pilgrims didn’t make it through the first winter, then we probably wouldn’t be speaking English….. We could be speaking “Indian language” or something like that, because there wouldn’t be a record of how they spoke. we probably wouldn’t have states or government or things like that. We’d probably have tribes and boundaries. Slavery probably wouldn’t have made it to America because why would people want their slaves to live somewhere where they possibly couldn’t survive and take care of their things. Maybe, if they we up to a challenge, then the European settlers would come but if the Pilgrims couldn’t survive then how would they be able too? But the Indians would have more success in surviving because of the things they know, and skills they have.

  7. james fails because they make there colony in the middle of the swamp also they die from mosquitos . also the indians killed them and mad them go back to egland

  8. They celabrated tanksgiving the first one they have survibed the whole winter and if it wasnt for squonto they would have diead because they neverd farmed |if they havnt survived there would be english hear and some people that exist hear and we may would aeake engin maby an foren languge and slavery wouldnt happen manny people that make are population a lot wouls most be gone the in dian whould survived unless anothe country came and we maby would have been callled a country with out then comming would have been diffrant

  9. Sometime during the first autumn, the pilgrims held a feast to celebrate how they managed through the winter. The feast would probably be earlier than the present day Thanksgiving holiday. The harvest usually comes in September and October. Much of what the pilgrims were celebrating was due to one native, Squanto. He had no home, having just returned from Europe. Squanto lodged with the pilgrims, and likely helped them celebrate. He taught them to farm, fish, hunt, and survive through the cold New England winter.

If the pilgrims did not make it through the winter, then they probably wouldn’t stay for long. Either they would make it to Europe, or vanish entirely. Migration from Europe wouldn’t become widespread till much later. Also, there wouldn’t be any Plymouth stock company, which would hinder interest in America. If this happened, the French might have had a head start in exploring America, so for all we know, we might be speaking French today! The Indians might have thrived a little longer, but it seems to me, the urge to colonize “uncharted” lands is inevitable. A lot of things would be different. Maybe the Chinese would come, and form a closed immigration dictatorship (No multiracials here!). There are many things that could have happened, so there is no telling how America would be today.

    1. this is long but i will read it and then say something add this squanto also could translate english if the other indians couldnt speak english clearly and if he couldnt translate english we wouldnt be here speaking english we would be off somewhere else speaking a different language yeah your right about us not being here if what ever but its because of squanto that we’re here and why we celebrate thanksgiving because he braught it to us so now every year we celebrate thanksgiving. but that was pretty nice i loved it

  10. Thanksgiving is the celebration William Bradford declared. They ower it all to Squanto because he taught the Pilgrims how to plant, fish, and use fish for fertilizer. All of that helped them survive the first winter. If the Pilgrims didn’t make it through the first winter, we wouldn’t be speaking English. We would be speaking a different language. We wouldn’t have the United States of America. We wouldn’t have a government and a President. We would be living in a different country, speaking a different language and living a whole different life. There also wouldn’t be the Plymouth Stock Trade which helped America a lot.

  11. The Celebration was Thanksgiving. it was made up by William Bradford who said that once theyd get of the ship, there would be a feast every year.
If the pilgrams wouldnt have made it, then we probably wouldnt be here right now, if alive, probably not in the USA, becauase it may havent been discovered. And food would be different, because squanto tought it.

  12. The celebration is Thanksgiving made by William Bradford. They owe much of the success to Squanto because he taught them how to plant corn, fish, and use fish for fertilzer and it all helped them survive the first winter. If the pilgrims had not made it through the first winter we might not be here right now because America might not have been discovered yet. But in time, I’m sure someone would have. We probably would not be speaking English because we would not be in America.

  13. When William Bradford and the plymouth colony succesfully survied the first winter and the first harvest they had holded a celebration called Thanksgiving day . We celebrate thanksgiving because of national pride Although Plymouth colony was not the first English colony in North America, the story of the Pilgrims is an honored part of American history because the Pilgrims came to the New World seeking religious freedom and survived the harsh winter. In the Plymouth colony, one English-speaking native American named Squanto decided to live with them and then taught them how to plant corn. The colonists harvested various vegetables they had planted and the abundance of wild fowl, fish and deer. In the harvest season, they gave thanks to God for abundance and rejoiced with feasting. without thanks giving america would not like be the same because if it waant for the plymouth we probaly wouldnt had it now and we would have the day to thanks god so much like we do on Thanksgiving day! if the pilgrams would had made it and the europeans would of still been there taking over the pilgrams why we would have the right to da anything about just got killed just by walking to the store. We wouldnt be able to talk english we would of probaly have to talk french or indian.

  14. After Wiliam Bradford and the Plymouth Colony survived the 1st winter, and the 1st harvest they made a celebration that we still celebrate today called Thanksgiving, we all owe this sucess to Squanto the Indian that helped our counrty become what it is now. Without Squanto America wouldnt be as succesful as it is today, he helped us discover how to fish, how to farm, and how to use fish as a fertilizer, 3 of the most biggest things we do every day here in America in able for us to survive. When Pilgrams landed on our land they basicly were the start of our future, if they didnt land in America we wouldnt even be speaking the main language us Americans speak today which is English. If you think about it we wouldnt even have a language. Slavery probabaly wouldnt have reached America which means it wouldnt have been a diversity of people living here that we have now. Eurepeans would have taken over America and it wouldnt even be as close as it is today. America wouldnt be America! We wouldnt even exist!

  15. 1. This celabration was called Thanksgiving. They owed much of their success to an Indian named Squanto. He was the one who helped the Pilgrims survive through the winter. He taught them how to hunt, and better ways to farm by showing them things like using dead fish as fertilizer, (they were city dwellers before they moved, so they didn’t know much at all about farming). Without his help, they would of all probably died.

    2. If the Pilgrims didn’t survive through the winter, most of us probably wouldn’t be here today considering the only people living in America were the Indians. And if we were here, we probably wouldn’t have the advanced technologies we have today. We also probably wouldn’t be speaking English, but some Indian language. I’m sure though that eventually some other country would come over and start colonies that would advance our ways of living.

  16. 1.The celebration that they held was called Thanksgiving. For that event being so special we owe it to a pautuxet indian named Squanto. Squanto taught the pilgrams many things such as hunting, farming, and many more. The pilgrams were city dwellers so they didn’t know much about farming. Squanto taught them many techniques like using dead fish for fertilizer. It may have stunk but it work very well.
2.If all the europeans did not land in america, it would probly have been colonized by someone else, and we probably would still be back in europe, africa, or asia somewhere. Also the pautuxet would be destroyed by the wampanog tribe.

  17. The first celebration was Thanksgiving. This was owed to Squanto because he taught them how to farm due to the fact that the Pilgrims were city dwellers. Thanks to Squanto they had enough food to survive.
If the Pilgrims didn’t make it through the winter then I believe new Europeans would journey across in the future. Then we could have been speaking Italian or Spanish because other countries would have gone over and started colonies. I’m also pretty sure that there would be slavery because the European countries were in high competition and would get ideas off each other. It would be different in our world today if another country in Europe came over to “start” the new colony because they would have different religions and customs.

  18. For those of who read this tonight, pass it on please. As I predicted, we found out Brynnlee has pink eye. She has to be out of school at least 24 hours on antibiotics, and because Mrs. Perry has to be out of town for a meeting I need to stay with Brynn. I have left instructions and an assignment to go with silent reading of “The Uglies”. Be sure to finish your Journal Entry assessment on Plymouth if you haven’t and turn it in. See you Friday. Be good!

    1. Sorry about that mr. Perry. If you read this, should we turn our assessment in? Hopefully she gets well soon

      1. Thanks Tanner. I know you mean that. Yes, please turn it in. Those directions will be on the assigment you are given tomorrow. I know that you will do your best to lead tomorrow. It’s refreshing to know that I can always count on you. See you Friday my friend.

  19. This celebration is known as thanksgiving. We owe the majority of the credit to an indian named Squanto. He taught the pilgrims how to farm and hunt. He taught them different ways to fertilize the crops and how to so many other things that they could never do. this is because they are city dwellers. This is the reason why we survived. He is the reason we survived.

If Squanto would have never showed up, we would probably speak spanish, french. If we didn’t speak these languages, we would probably speak some indian language. We could have possibly married into the indians. This is what we think happened in the Roanoke Colonists. If neither of those happened, Indians would be the only people in America. We could possibly still live under a constitutional Monarchy. We probably wouldn’t have the Constitution or Bill of Rights. We would probably still be with England. There are just so many ways that it could go if we weren’t taught how to farm.

  20. The first celebration was Thanksgiving. This was owed to Squanto because he taught them how to farm. Thanks to Squanto they had enough food to survive because he was a great hunter and farmer.
If the Pilgrims didn’t make it through the winter then the U.S.A would be completley different from today. There would probably still be slavery because no one of stood up for it. It would be different in our world today if another country in Europe came over to start the US, are world would have not been the same as it is today.

  21. The celebration was called thanksgiving. They owed this to squanto. Squanto was the person who thought them how to farm. Squanto thought them how to use fish as there firtilizer so there food would groww better.
If the pilgrams didnt land here in America then it probly won’t even be called america. It probly won’t even be full of different races if they didn’t bring slaves over. when the slaves fought for equall rights they ended slavery and now there is a lot of different races all in one country.

  22. The celebration was called thanksgiving. They owed this to squanto. Squanto was the person who thought them how to farm. Squanto thought them how to use fish as there firtilizer so there food would grow better.
If the pilgrams didnt land here in America then it probly won’t even be called america. It probly won’t even be full of different races if they didn’t bring slaves over. when the slaves fought for equall rights they ended slavery and now there is a lot of different races all in one states.

  23. The celebration was called thanksgiving. They owed this to squanto. Squanto was the person who thought them how to farm. Squanto thought them how to use fish as there firtilizer so there food would grow better.

  24. The celebration that Squanto invented was thanksgiving. Squanto was the only Indian to speak English well but it wasn’t perfect. He taught the pilgrims (white people) to farm. If the pilgrims didn’t make it to America not only would we lose our language but we would lose our country. Maybe this would be the Indian Tribes territory. Slavery wouldn’t be here and we might not be here or who we are today. They wouldn’t have the things and technology we have today.

  25. The celebration is Thanksgiving, and William Bradford declared it. And America wouldnt be the same because the indians wouldve pretty much completely populated America, and we would speak the language they spoke.
